LEICESTER MAN JAILED IN MANSLAUGHTER CASE FOR STABBING WIFE AFTER DIVORCE REQUEST
In Leicester, a man named Yacoub Rezai, aged 32, was convicted of manslaughter after stabbing his wife, Reihana Rezayi, four times in their home last November.Court proceedings revealed that Rezai was upset by the idea of divorce, which led to him committing the attack on the day she sought separation, 13 November.
He subsequently drove to Reading with their two young children, aged five and two, before turning himself into police.
While the jury cleared him of murder charges, he was found guilty of manslaughter and was sentenced to four years behind bars.
It was explained during the trial that Rezai was unable to accept the end of his marriage.
Following the verdict, Reihana’s sister, Somayeah Rezayi, voiced her disbelief and grief, saying, "Everything happened so suddenly and I still can't believe my sister is gone and her children are left without their mother and father because of their father’s tragic actions.
If he had considered the children, he might not have acted the way he did.
I only want justice.
My sister will rest in peace, and I will do my best to raise her children." Detective Chief Inspector Simon Cure, who led the investigation, praised the family and the Leicester Afghan community for their support, noting that Rezai’s refusal to accept his marriage's end resulted in the devastating consequences.
This case emphasizes the severe impact of domestic violence and underscores the importance of community intervention and support systems.
