Reading Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing series of events that have shocked the community of Reading, a man identified as Williams Nodes has been convicted and sentenced for a range of heinous crimes involving minors. The severity of his actions and the manipulative nature of his conduct have led authorities to describe him as a significant threat to children in the area.

Williams Nodes, aged 35 and a resident of Reading, Berkshire, was initially known for his role as a scout leader, a position that unfortunately provided him with access and influence over young children. His criminal activities span several years, with some offenses dating back to 2010, and include attempts to groom young girls, indecent image possession, and breaches of court orders designed to protect minors.

In December 2019, Nodes was already in custody, awaiting sentencing for multiple serious charges, including making indecent images of children and violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Despite knowing that he faced imprisonment for these offenses, he did not cease his predatory behavior. Instead, he attempted to target another child while still awaiting his court date, demonstrating a blatant disregard for legal restrictions and the safety of minors.

Specifically, Nodes was found guilty of trying to incite a 13-year-old girl into sexual activity, grooming a girl under 16 with the intent to meet her, and creating indecent images of children. His actions also included breaching the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order on two separate occasions, further illustrating his manipulative and deceptive nature.

Heather Bainbridge, a Public Protection Officer from the Public Protection Unit, emphasized the gravity of Nodes' conduct, stating, “William Nodes has shown a great disregard for his prohibitions within his sexual harm prevention order. He is an extremely manipulative and deceptive individual, who in December 2019 was awaiting sentence for the three counts of making indecent images of children and one breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order after being in contact with a child under 16 via the internet. Nodes was aware he would likely receive custody for these offences, but despite this, he targeted and attempted to harm another child.”

Earlier, in April 2017, Nodes, then aged 33 and residing on Underwood Road in Bracknell, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at Reading Crown Court. This sentence followed his arrest on April 17 of that year, after investigations revealed his involvement in possessing extreme pornographic images and attempting to engage in sexual activity with a minor. During the trial, Nodes admitted to four charges of making indecent or pseudo-photographs of a child, two charges of possessing extreme pornographic images, and three charges related to attempting to incite a child into sexual activity.

Detective Constable Alice Ashman, who led the investigation, commented on the case, saying, “Nodes was in a position of trust at the time of committing these offences, volunteering as a scout leader. I am pleased that the sentence given reflects the seriousness of the crimes he has committed. During this investigation, we had the full cooperation of the Scout Association and worked closely with partner agencies to ensure that Nodes was brought to justice.”

As part of his sentencing, Nodes was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and was issued an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to prevent him from working with children in the future. The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and child protection agencies to combat sexual crimes against minors and to safeguard vulnerable members of the community from predatory individuals like Williams Nodes.
