WILLIAM ROBERTSON AND HIS SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN RENFREWSHIRE
William Robertson, a 66-year-old sex offender from Kilmacolm in Renfrewshire, has been found guilty of possessing and distributing indecent images of children, revealing disturbing thoughts involving his own family members.The details of his crimes came to light at Greenock Sheriff Court, where it was disclosed that Robertson’s residences and online activities had been under scrutiny following a police operation.
The investigation that led to Robertson’s arrest was initiated as part of an intelligence-led sting, culminating in a raid at his comfortably appointed home on West Glen Road, Kilmacolm, on May 4 of the previous year.
During this operation, officers uncovered a distressing collection of digital material: 66 indecent images depicting female children—ranging in age from approximately four to fifteen years.
These images were classified under the most severe categories of child exploitation material, indicating a grave level of concern regarding their content and distribution.
Upon executing the warrant, police found Robertson’s electronic devices, including a laptop and an iPhone, both of which contained the illicit images.
The prosecution revealed that all of these images were accessible to Robertson himself, raising the clear implication that he was both in possession of and actively involved in the dissemination of this material.
During the raid, Robertson was heard to tell his wife, “I’m not part of a ring or anything like that,” an attempt to deny or minimize the scope of his involvement.
The court was also presented with evidence that Robertson had communicated his disturbing preferences online.
In messages exchanged via the Kik messenger app, he explicitly mentioned that he was “into schoolgirls” and engaged in fantasies about young female members of his own family.
These revelations underline the disturbing nature of his mental state and the severity of his offenses.
Legal proceedings established that Robertson had engaged in criminal activity across several periods, with charges covering both the possession and distribution of child abuse images.
He admitted that between August 1, 2018, and May 3, 2021, he had taken or knowingly allowed the creation of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children, as well as possessing such images.
Additionally, during the period from February 1 to May 4 of the following year, Robertson was involved in the distribution or showing of such harmful images.
Further to these convictions, Robertson faced a separate charge for covertly filming female children as they entered a school, but this particular allegation, for which he pleaded not guilty, was accepted by prosecutors without proceeding to trial.
Currently, Robertson is living on bail at a different residence while the court considers his case.
In the courtroom, his legal representatives acknowledged his guilty pleas on the possession and distribution counts.
However, the judge deferred sentencing until June 29, pending the preparation of a detailed background report and an assessment regarding electronic monitoring of the convicted individual.
The court also immediately imposed a requirement for Robertson to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
The duration of his required registration will be determined at his next court appearance, given the seriousness of the crimes committed.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts among law enforcement agencies in Renfrewshire to combat child exploitation and bring offenders to justice, especially in cases involving digital misconduct and abuse.
