WILLIAM ORR FROM SOUTH SHIELDS CAUGHT TRYING TO FLEE AFTER ONLINE SEXUAL PREDATION NEAR NEWCASTLE

In October 2016, a serious incident unfolded involving William Orr, a resident of South Shields, who found himself at the center of a criminal investigation after attempting to evade law enforcement authorities following a disturbing online encounter.

Orr, a father of two, engaged in a series of conversations on a gay chat room with an individual he believed to be a 15-year-old boy named Tom.

The exchanges quickly took a sexual turn, with Orr sending explicit messages and arranging to meet the supposed teenager at a car park near Newcastle College, in Elswick.

However, the meeting did not go as Orr anticipated.

Instead of encountering the young boy, he was confronted by a member of the vigilante group Dark Justice, who had been monitoring the online activity.

The group had noted down Orr’s vehicle registration details as he attempted to leave the scene.

Recognizing the potential danger, they reported the incident to the police.

The following day, Orr was apprehended while traveling to Stansted Airport in Essex.

Authorities found him in possession of approximately £500 in cash, raising further suspicion about his intentions and plans to leave the country.

William Orr, of Imeary Street, South Shields, faced charges related to attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

During the court proceedings, he pleaded guilty to these charges.

The judge, Penny Moreland, sentenced him to six months in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years, meaning Orr would not serve time unless he committed another offence within that period.

In her remarks, Judge Moreland outlined the details of the case, emphasizing that Orr had been communicating with someone he believed to be Tom, a 15-year-old, through a gay chat room and later via the KIK messaging application.

The court heard that Orr had initially claimed his name was Liam and that he was 43 years old from South Shields.

The conversations escalated quickly, with Orr requesting to meet and asking Tom to delete their chat history and pretend he was 16.

By 11 pm on June 28, 2016, Orr had traveled to the designated meeting spot near Newcastle College.

When he arrived in a grey saloon car and approached a member of Dark Justice, he made a comment about the vigilante’s clothing before reacting with hostility when introduced.

Orr then sped off from the scene.

Defence counsel David Callan highlighted Orr’s personal struggles, revealing that he had been deeply affected by the deaths of his wife and son.

His wife had died from lung cancer when they were both young, and his son had passed away while Orr was serving in the Army in Afghanistan in 2009.

Orr has been undergoing Psycho-Sexual Therapy, which he claims has been beneficial.

It was also disclosed that Orr had a prior conviction for outraging public decency, stemming from an incident in 2013 when he performed a sex act in front of a group of teenage boys at Seaburn Beach.

As part of his sentence, Orr was ordered to register as a sex offender for seven years and was placed under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for the same duration.

Overall, the case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and community groups to combat online predation and protect vulnerable minors from exploitation and harm.
