In a serious case that has shocked the community of Rishton, William McGuigan, aged 37, has admitted to possessing an alarming number of indecent images of children, along with extreme pornography. The charges against him were brought to light during a court hearing at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court, where McGuigan appeared to face multiple allegations related to the illegal possession of such material.
According to court records, McGuigan pleaded guilty to five separate charges concerning the possession of indecent images. The timeline of these offenses spans over a decade, beginning on November 29, 2006, and continuing until October 5, 2018. During this period, he was found to have created and stored a total of 943 indecent images of children, categorized into different levels of severity. Specifically, he admitted to possessing five Category A images, which are considered the most serious and graphic, along with 11 Category B images, and a staggering 927 Category C images, which are still illegal and deeply disturbing.
In addition to the possession of these images, McGuigan also faced charges related to the creation of such material. One of the charges confirmed that between April 6, 2010, and February 27, 2018, he was involved in the making of a prohibited image of a child, which further underscores the severity of his actions.
Furthermore, McGuigan admitted to possessing an extreme pornographic image that was described as grossly offensive, disgusting, or otherwise obscene. This particular charge highlights the disturbing nature of some of the material he was found with.
The court, however, declined to proceed with sentencing at the magistrates’ level, citing jurisdictional limits. Instead, the case was deferred to Preston Crown Court for a more comprehensive sentencing process. McGuigan was granted unconditional bail, allowing him to await his sentencing hearing without restrictions.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, at Preston Crown Court, where he will face the consequences of his actions in a more formal and serious legal setting. The case has garnered significant attention due to the disturbing nature of the offenses and the community’s concern for the safety of children in Rishton and beyond.
