Aberdeen Rapist
William McGregor, a 32-year-old man from Aberdeen, has been handed a seven-year prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple severe physical and sexual assaults committed against women in the Aberdeen area. These crimes, which spanned over a decade from June 2009 to February 2020, involved a disturbing pattern of violence and abuse that left victims traumatized and fearful.

Among the violent acts attributed to McGregor were instances where he physically restrained women by grabbing them by the throat, applying pressure to restrict their breathing, and inflicting physical injuries during various encounters. His assaults were not limited to physical violence; he also repeatedly raped women, subjecting them to sexual abuse in multiple separate incidents. The brutality and persistence of his actions underscored the seriousness of his crimes and the threat he posed to the community.

McGregor’s arrest was made possible thanks to the courageous victims who came forward to report their experiences. Their testimonies prompted a thorough police investigation, which ultimately led to his conviction at the High Court in Aberdeen earlier this year. The court proceedings revealed the extent of his offenses and the impact on the victims, who had endured years of fear and suffering.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Lord Burns emphasized the gravity of McGregor’s crimes, stating that he deserved to be imprisoned for his actions. Currently, McGregor is detained at HMP Grampian, where he awaits the completion of his sentence. The judge also noted that McGregor showed no remorse during the proceedings and maintained his innocence regarding the sexual abuse allegations. Despite this, the court took into account his issues with alcohol, drugs, and a traumatic childhood, which his defense argued contributed to his behavior.

As part of his sentence, McGregor was ordered to be under supervision for four years following his release from prison. Additionally, he was placed on the Sex Offenders Register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm. It is noteworthy that prior to these convictions, McGregor had no criminal record related to sexual offenses, making his case particularly alarming and highlighting the severity of his recent actions.
