FORMER PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN
A former primary school teacher was sentenced to prison on 12th May 2025 for sexual crimes involving two boys who were each 10 years old at the time.
William Maher, aged 37 and from Belfast, received a sentence of one year behind bars, followed by a further year on license.
He will also need to register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years and is subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for four years.
Additionally, Maher is disqualified from teaching and from working with children in any role, whether paid or voluntary.
The charges against him included three counts of communicating sexually with a child and three counts of encouraging or inciting a minor under 13 to partake in sexual offences.
These incidents occurred between September 1, 2021, and May 24, 2022.
