In September 2003, a disturbing case involving a serial sex offender from Sandbach culminated in a significant legal judgment. William Leicester, aged 50 and residing on London Road, was sentenced to 21 months in prison after admitting to multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a young girl he was entrusted to care for.

Leicester appeared before Liverpool Crown Court on a Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault. Additionally, two other charges were taken into account during the sentencing process, highlighting a pattern of disturbing behavior. Prosecutor Ben Jones detailed that Leicester had molested the girl on several occasions when she was between the ages of 12 and 14. These assaults occurred while Leicester was acting as her child minder at her parents' residence in Bootle, Merseyside.
