WILLIAM GLOVER IN YORK FREED OVER APPALLING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IMAGES
In August 2017, York Crown Court acquitted William Glover of possessing explicit images depicting the most heinous acts of sexual degradation involving children as young as two, while he was residing at his grandparents’ house.William Glover, 20, formerly of Old North Road, Brotherton near Selby, and now of no fixed address, was also found to possess extreme pornography featuring animals, prosecutor Laura Addy stated.
The investigation began when police received information about indecent images, which led them to an IP address registered at Glover’s grandparents’ residence, where he was living at the time.
During a search, officers seized a white laptop and a mobile phone belonging to Glover.
He claimed that if they discovered images on the devices, he should not be held responsible because he had downloaded them for others and was unaware of their contents.
Glover voluntarily provided the password to his devices, allowing the cybercrime team to examine them thoroughly.
They found 619 indecent images, including 67 categorized as most extreme, along with indecent video files, some of the same severity.
Additionally, Glover had distributed four indecent images, two of which were among the most severe, Ms.
Addy explained.
In mitigation, Graham Parkin noted that Glover had served two months in custody and expressed that he did not wish to repeat such behavior, having experienced bullying while in prison.
He emphasized that Glover cooperated fully by providing his password promptly, giving investigators immediate access to his devices.
Glover’s family expressed shame over his actions, stating he would no longer be able to stay with them and would likely need to move to a homeless hostel.
Glover admitted guilt to charges of possessing and distributing indecent images and possessing extreme pornography.
Judge Paul Batty QC, the Honorary Recorder of York, remarked, “The ages of the children depicted in the most appalling acts of sexual degradation were between two years and nine.” The judge sentenced Glover to two years’ detention in a young offenders’ institution, but suspended the sentence for two years.
He also told Glover that he had come “very close indeed” to an immediate custodial sentence.
As part of his sentence, Glover was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work, participate in 40 days of rehabilitative activities, and register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years.
