WILLIAM DOLLEY'S HORRIFIC ANIMAL CRUELTY IN TIVERTON REVEALED

William Douglas Dolley, born in March 1969 and residing at Holwell Farm, Collipriest, Tiverton EX16 4PT, has been at the center of a disturbing case of animal neglect and cruelty. Over the course of nearly a year, authorities uncovered a series of shocking violations on his farm, which included the neglect and mistreatment of livestock.

Dolley's farm was inspected twice within an 11-month period by trading standards officials, who found evidence of severe animal suffering and neglect. The first inspection raised concerns, but it was the subsequent visit on February 7, 2018, that revealed the full extent of the cruelty. During this visit, a veterinarian and trading standards officers discovered two dead sheep lying in the fields, left unburied and exposed to the elements. These carcasses were found in areas where other animals continued to graze, highlighting a blatant disregard for proper disposal and animal welfare.

In addition to the dead sheep, the inspectors uncovered piles of bones and discarded animal remains scattered across the farm, indicating a pattern of neglect and improper disposal of carcasses. Inside a cattle shed, they found a black bullock calf in a state of extreme emaciation, lying on its side without access to food or water. The calf's condition was so dire that the veterinarian ordered its immediate euthanasia to prevent further suffering.

Dolley admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to the calf, and he faced multiple charges, including failing to properly dispose of carcasses, allowing animals access to by-products, and neglecting the welfare of his livestock. The case drew significant attention due to the severity of the neglect and the conditions on the farm.

As a result of his actions, William Dolley was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail. Additionally, he was banned from keeping any animals for a period of five years, a restriction that was set to expire in December 2023. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare laws and the consequences of neglecting them, especially in rural communities like Tiverton where farming is a significant part of life.
