WILLIAM CHAMBERLAIN OF BRISTOL SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE CHARGES INVOLVING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A man who sexually abused a boy and filmed himself doing so had a darker secret from his past.It was revealed that William Chamberlain, now 24 and residing in Frampton Cotterell, had also committed the rape of a young girl when he was a teenager.
Chamberlain pleaded guilty to three counts of raping a child under 13, as well as sexual assault of a boy under 13 and the creation of an indecent video of a child.
Judge William Hart sentenced him to seven and a half years in prison.
The judge stated, "You pleaded guilty to all matters.
The damage to your victims is likely to be long-lasting and permanent.
That is something for which you are responsible." Chamberlain was also subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to prevent future offenses, required to notify police of his location indefinitely, and given a restraining order that prohibits any contact with the victims.
Additionally, he is barred from working with children and vulnerable adults.
His phone, which contained the indecent footage, was destroyed.
Prosecutor Nikki Coombe described how Chamberlain, in his mid-teens at the time, repeatedly raped a girl about half his age, telling her, "You haven't told anyone, have you, it's our secret." The girl confided in her family, and the matter was eventually reported to police.
When interviewed, Chamberlain told officers, "I messed up," and chose not to comment further.
Police investigations uncovered that years later, Chamberlain also sexually abused a ten-year-old boy, with evidence of the abuse found on his phone.
Once again, Chamberlain declined to comment during his police interview.
During sentencing, it was noted that the starting point for sentences related to Chamberlain's abuse of the boy was lower than for the filming of the abuse.
Defense lawyer Barry White emphasized, "The most important thing I can say to the victims is he is truly sorry.
The pre-sentence report indicates he takes full responsibility for his disgusting behaviors." Mr.
White also highlighted that, as a teenager, Chamberlain's level of intellectual functioning was limited and that family references described him as a "gentle, kind, and helpful young man." Detective Inspector Louise Catlin condemned Chamberlain’s actions, stating, "He subjected his victims to sickening abuse and was left with little choice but to plead guilty given the volume of evidence.
He fully deserved the prison sentence he received, thanks to the dedication of officers including DS Mike Banks and DC Francesca Hepburn.
The victims have shown incredible resilience throughout this process, and we are grateful for their and their families' support.
No sentence can undo what they experienced, but it is hoped that knowing Chamberlain is behind bars will bring some measure of relief." She added, "The emotional toll for victims of sexual abuse to come forward is immense.
Trusting someone with the most painful details is a significant psychological hurdle.
Cases like this aim to reassure victims that they will be believed, their cases taken seriously, and that no effort will be spared to pursue justice."
