FIFE SNAPCHAT CREEP MADE CHILLING NIGHT-TIME VISIT TO GIRL, 14
A man from Fife, William Brown, targeted a 14-year-old girl over several months via Snapchat, ultimately making a frightening night-time visit to her home.After sending her explicit messages and images, Brown claimed he was outside her residence in a chilling Snapchat message, even though she had previously asked him not to come.
He sent a photograph from a location near her house and later sent messages implying he was present there and holding his penis.
Brown appeared before Dunfermline Sheriff Court to admit to charges of communicating indecently with a minor and encouraging her to view sexual images, covering actions from June 2023 to January 2024.
He is now on the sex offenders register pending sentencing scheduled for next month.
According to prosecutor Azrah Yousaf, Brown, who was not known to the girl, initially contacted her on Snapchat after she added him because of mutual friends.
She disclosed her age, 14, and he responded he was 30.
Their conversation became sexual, with Brown saying he was horny before she ultimately deleted him in August 2023.
Nevertheless, he sent her a series of explicit images, including a nude male photo and photos of a penis.
In late November, Brown’s account requested she re-add him, and he continued to send explicit images, including a photo of his erect penis in December.
The girl later received messages from him, including a photo of himself with friends and a hint he might come to her home again.
When she expressed her wish he not do so, she received a Snapchat message at night with a photo of a steering wheel and a dark background, which she believed was near her home.
Brown later claimed he had been outside her door, causing her fear.
The girl contacted her mother, who called police, leading to Brown’s phone being seized in July.
Brown has no criminal history, and the court deferred sentencing until October 1 for background checks and to consider mitigation.
Brown’s guilty plea covers his conduct over several months, involving sexual messaging and an intimidating night-time visit.
Sheriff's Court proceeding continues to determine his sentence.
——————————————————————————————————- Sentencing Update The sheriff made it clear that Brown’s behaviour was grave enough to cross the line for a custodial sentence.
He highlighted that the disturbing chats were not accidental but appeared to be something Brown willingly pursued, noting that there were “significant concerns that must be addressed.” Instead of jail, the court ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work and placed him under three years of supervision.
During that period, he must also complete the Moving Forward to Change programme, which is designed to tackle harmful sexual behaviour.
