DOMESTIC ABUSER SENTENCED AFTER 13-HOUR ASSAULT ON WOMAN
A mother, Chelsea Moody, has shared a harrowing account of a 13-hour assault inflicted by her former boyfriend, Wayne Swales, who is 33 years old.She described how he pinned her down, punched, kicked, and bit her, while also pulling her hair out.
During the attack, Swales threatened her with knives, including shoving a knife up her nose and turning off the lights so she couldn't see where he was.
Chelsea recounted, "He kept coming at me to stab me and was threatening me with knives.
He even stuck a knife up my nose.
At one point he was armed with knives and he turned the lights out in the room so I couldn't see where he was - I was absolutely terrified." She added that every time she spoke, he would punch or kick her, pin her hand to the table and beat her knuckles with a knife sharpener.
The assault culminated with Swales removing her false nails, which she described as a traumatic experience.
Chelsea, aged 22, expressed her relief that she survived and urged others to be aware of domestic violence warning signs.
She emphasized the importance of reporting abuse, saying, "I want to tell my story to warn other people in the same position as me.
Look out for the warning signs - just small sly comments can signal controlling behaviour or possessiveness." Swales, from Grimsby, was convicted and sentenced to 26 weeks in jail on April 5 for what a district judge described as an "aggressive, prolonged and degrading assault." He was also given an indefinite restraining order banning him from contacting Chelsea and from approaching within 50 meters of her home.
Chelsea hopes her story will raise awareness and encourage victims to seek help.
