Evesham Sexual Abuser
In a significant case stemming from Evesham, a man named Wayne How has been sentenced to a total of six years and six months in prison after being convicted on multiple charges related to child cruelty and domestic violence. The conviction followed a detailed and lengthy trial at Worcester Crown Court, where the jury deliberated for three days after a month of proceedings before reaching their verdicts.

Wayne How, aged 33, faced nine charges in total. Of these, eight were related to cruelty inflicted upon minors under the age of 16, while the remaining charge involved an incident of actual bodily harm directed at his partner. The assault on his partner involved him pulling her hair and threatening to suffocate her using a plastic bag, actions that demonstrated a pattern of violent and controlling behavior.

The allegations against How spanned a period from January 1, 2002, to September 8, 2012. Prosecutor Malcolm Morse outlined that the victims, a boy and a girl, endured both verbal and physical abuse during this time. The abuse reportedly included forcing the children to fight each other and other children, a disturbing pattern of manipulation and cruelty. The jury ultimately found How guilty of nine charges, though he was acquitted of five other counts of cruelty, indicating that the evidence was sufficient to establish guilt on specific charges but not all.

During the sentencing hearing, His Honour Judge Michael Cullum addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of the crimes. He acknowledged the resilience of the victims, who are now reportedly doing well at school despite their traumatic experiences. The judge also took into account How’s background, noting that he had previously served a two-year prison sentence in 2006 for violence. The defense, represented by Jason Aris, argued that How had struggled to find employment after his release and had spent over 350 days on curfew. The court deducted 179 days from his overall sentence to reflect this.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Cullum issued a restraining order preventing How from contacting the victims, aiming to protect them from further harm. The judge described How as a bully who was cunning, deceitful, and manipulative, displaying sadistic tendencies as he exerted control over his victims through intimidation and violence. His residence was identified as Windsor Road, Evesham.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Andrew Daniel from Worcester’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit expressed satisfaction with the outcome. He stated, “We are satisfied with the sentence handed down and hope this will go some way towards helping the victims rebuild their lives.” He further described How as a cruel and manipulative individual who exploited his physical strength to intimidate those unable to defend themselves. The detective also extended gratitude to members of the Evesham community who came forward to assist in bringing the case to court, acknowledging the courage of witnesses who provided evidence under difficult circumstances.
