OFFENDER JAILED FOR ATTACKING WIFE WITH A KNIFE DURING A DRUNKEN ROW
A man named Wayne Harford, aged 52, has been sentenced to two years in prison for attacking his wife with a knife during an argument. The victim, Julia Harford, told the jury that her husband seized her chef's knife and repeatedly slashed her face and neck at their home. She also claimed that he hacked at her head and hair to make her unattractive so that no one else would want her. Harford, who works in a glazing company, stated that she had often come at him with knives, bottles, and a hammer throughout their five-year relationship. Harford was accused of causing grievous bodily harm but was acquitted of causing it with intent, instead he was convicted of causing GBH without intent, which resulted in a two-year sentence. The court heard he disarmed her and inflicted injuries to her temples, jaw, and ankle while she was threatening him with a knife. Harford admitted he was out of trouble for many years and was working, and told police that he walked to the police station after the incident, but they were closed. The judge noted that the attack occurred during a drunk argument after they had been drinking at a pub, and described the attack as drunken and provoked. The court also revealed that Julia was left with multiple cuts, and Harford was found with a blood-covered knife in North Street. Harford said he was not trying to kill her and accepted that what he did was wrong, asserting that she had previously come at him with weapons and had attempted to kill herself before.
