COUNTY DURHAM MAN SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND BREACHING COURT ORDERS
A woman believed she was about to be killed during a brutal assault by her partner, Wayne Carr.The incident occurred after Carr returned to his caravan in Shotton Colliery around 11pm on May 30 last year, where his partner and children were present.
An argument escalated, prompting the woman to call her friend, Emma Blair, who rushed to the scene in her pajamas after hearing the screams.
Upon arrival, Miss Blair was immediately attacked by Carr, who punched and kicked her repeatedly while threatening to bury her.
Carr had been given multiple chances to keep his freedom but repeatedly breached a suspended sentence order, breaching it four times, and remaining on other court orders for previous offenses including assaulting police, dangerous driving, possessing cannabis, and carrying a bladed article.
Despite these warnings, Carr continued to behave violently, culminating in the attack on his partner and her friend.
During the assault, Carr struck the woman more than five times, bleeding her nose and injuring her with a piece of window blind.
Miss Blair was in a panic, fearing for her life, and found herself in a tight ball to protect herself.
Carr fled after the police were called.
She suffered bruising and possible facial fractures.
Carr pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 30 months in prison by Judge Robert Adams.
Having been in custody since May last year, Carr is expected to be released within four months.
The court noted he has 43 previous convictions, including threats of a mass shooting with a shotgun.
His defense stated he has mental health issues and has attempted to commit suicide, expressing remorse for his actions.
