WAYNE BUXTON'S HORRIFIC NIGHTMARE IN WOOLLEY MOOR: SHOCKING HOME INVASION AND SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN CLAY CROSS NEIGHBORHOOD
In a disturbing series of events that have left the local community shaken, Wayne Buxton, a 26-year-old man from Hawthorn Close, Woolley Moor, near Alfreton, was convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous crimes involving the invasion of private homes and sexual assaults. The incidents took place in the quiet neighborhood of Clay Cross, where Buxton had been actively scouting for vulnerable targets by checking for open doors during the night in July of the previous year.According to court proceedings, Buxton’s criminal activities culminated in him unlawfully entering the residences of two women while they were asleep, with one of these invasions resulting in a sexual assault. The trial, which concluded in January, found Buxton guilty on multiple counts, including two charges of trespassing with the intent to commit a sexual offence and one count of sexual assault. Additionally, he admitted to possessing indecent photographs, which included images of children, stored on his laptop between December 2007 and July 2015.
Prosecutor Martin Hurst detailed the disturbing behavior of Buxton during the trial, revealing that the offender had an intense obsession with pornography. Hurst explained, “He has a voracious appetite for pornography. After he had been in the second victim’s bedroom, he engaged in an extensive session of searching for more images. The first half-hour included pictures of people sleeping.”
Further evidence showed that Buxton viewed pornography featuring themes matching the second victim, including images of individuals sleeping, blondes, and those wearing glasses, shortly after he had entered her bedroom. The court heard harrowing accounts from the victims. The first victim, who was sleeping on her sofa, awoke to find Buxton just six inches from her face before he fled the scene. The second victim was subjected to unwanted physical contact, with Buxton touching her backside and thigh while she was in her bed.
It was also revealed that Buxton had a prior conviction from 2007 for sexually assaulting a woman under a bridge, indicating a troubling pattern of predatory behavior. In sentencing, Judge John Burgess expressed his condemnation of Buxton’s actions, stating, “It’s not surprising to learn from one of the victims that there hasn’t been a day since when she doesn’t think about what happened. It must have been terrifying for her.”
As part of his punishment, Buxton was sentenced to eight years in prison. The court also imposed restrictions on his use of technology, banning him from using computers and mobile phones unless the devices’ data could be accessed and reviewed by authorities. Furthermore, Buxton was placed on the sex offenders’ register, subject to strict requirements and restrictions to prevent further harm to the community.
