WARREN WALDROM SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR RAPE IN LEICESTER AND COALVILLE
A man identified as Warren Waldrom has been sentenced to a 12-year prison term after being found guilty of the shocking crime of raping a teenage girl.The incident took place in July 2017 at an address in Coalville, Leicestershire, when the victim was under the age of 16.
Waldrom, who is 30 years old, faced charges relating to this assault and was also accused of sexual assault, which he vehemently denied.
However, after a thorough legal process culminating in a trial at Leicester Crown Court in February, the jury convicted him on all charges.
The police authorities expressed their gratitude towards the victim and her family for their remarkable bravery and unwavering patience throughout the lengthy legal proceedings.
Their cooperation was instrumental in ensuring that justice could be served.
According to reports, Waldrom, residing on Radiant Road in Leicester at the time, took the girl to his former residence in Coalville.
It was there that the assault occurred.
The victim, in her account, recounted that she initially told Waldrom to stop, which he did temporarily.
However, he then returned and, despite her desperate pleas, committed the act of sexual assault.
Following the incident, the victim confided in friends and later disclosed the details to her family, prompting their involvement and subsequently leading to Waldrom’s arrest.
During police investigations, Waldrom claimed that he believed the girl was older than her actual age and that the sexual activity was consensual.
Nevertheless, further detailed inquiries and evidence gathering extended over time.
These extensive investigations resulted in Waldrom being formally charged in November 2019.
Detective Constable Katie Leadbetter of Leicestershire Police emphasized the arduous nature of this case, stating, “This has been an extremely difficult time for the victim and her family as they have waited firstly for our extensive enquiries to be completed to enable charges to be made and then for the trial to be heard.
Without the victim's bravery, patience and co-operation during this time, we would not have been able to see this conviction happen.” This case highlights the enduring challenge of addressing sexual offences and underscores the importance of perseverance and support for victims as they seek justice through the legal system.
