WARREN TEMPLETON AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENCES IN LANCASHIRE
A man identified as Warren Templeton, described by authorities as a 'dangerous' paedophile and rapist, has been sentenced to serve a minimum of nine and a half years in prison following his conviction on multiple historic sexual offences. These crimes, committed against three children during his own childhood, have now resulted in a lengthy incarceration.
The court proceedings revealed that Templeton, now aged 40, also committed a series of sexual assaults and a rape on a vulnerable adult male between the years 2008 and 2016.
During this period, Templeton was between 25 and 33 years old.
Prosecuting barrister Peter Barr detailed how the assault on the adult victim left him in pain for several days.
The impact statements from the victims painted a grim picture of lasting trauma.
One adult victim expressed that the experience of being raped by Templeton has profoundly affected his daily life, exacerbating existing health issues and causing immense emotional suffering.
He shared that he has attempted to take his own life multiple times due to the trauma inflicted by Templeton and struggles with forming friendships or romantic relationships.
The court heard that the victims of Templeton’s childhood crimes, which involved two girls aged six and eleven and a boy, were subjected to acts of gross indecency and other sexual offences between 1997 and 2001 in Burnley, Lancashire.
These incidents, which left the victims so traumatized that they only reported them in 2020, included two acts of gross indecency and other sordid acts committed when Templeton was between 13 and 17 years old.
The court was also informed that the adult victim’s statement highlighted his fear of Templeton’s potential future actions if they were to meet again, prompting the court to prioritize his safety.
The other victims echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the profound emotional and psychological damage they suffered, which continues to affect their personal relationships.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Sara Dodd acknowledged that Templeton remains a significant risk to the public, especially to children.
She noted that his risk level has not diminished during his four years in custody and concluded that an extended sentence was necessary to protect society.
Templeton, who is currently held at HMP Wymott but previously resided on Florence Street in Burnley, pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecent assault against children under 14 and two counts of inciting a child to commit gross indecency.
He was also found guilty of two counts of sexual assault and one count of rape after a four-day trial in August.
The court revealed that Templeton has a total of 11 convictions for 19 offences, with his most recent conviction in 2019 for arson, which resulted in a four-year prison sentence.
Judge Dodd sentenced him to 12 months for the offences against his child victims and imposed a total extended sentence of nine years for the sexual assault and rape of the adult victim, with an additional five years on extended licence.
These sentences will run consecutively, resulting in a combined term of 15 years.
Furthermore, Templeton is required to register as a sex offender for life and is subject to a lifetime restraining order protecting all four of his victims from any contact.
The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses to the community in Lancashire.
