Dean Goodwin, 32, has gone on the run after a woman in her 20s was brutally raped in her own home last Friday. Goodwin had previously been jailed for 10 years for indecently assaulting a 63-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl, having been released early from jail. In 2009 he was branded a ‘high risk’ offender and women were warned not to go out alone after he absconded while out on licence towards the end of his 10 year sentence. He was subsequently jailed for an extra two years for the breach and was released in November 2011. Police are now searching for Goodwin in the Bournemouth and Poole area of Dorset following the rape at a flat in the Parkstone area of Poole. The victim was attacked after a man, who police believe to be Goodwin, kicked in her front door between 2am and 6am before launching his assault. Local residents said two weeks before the attack armed police had visited the property following a disturbance there. Goodwin, who is from Poole, is white, 5ft 10in and has a stocky, muscular build. He also has very short hair and was wearing blue or black jeans, a t-shirt, brown boots and a black jacket when he was last seen Police have carried out door-to-door enquiries and are trawling hours of CCTV footage in a bid to trace Goodwin. The Dorset police helicopter has also been scrambled in the dragnet operation. Goodwin had been living in a hostel in Poole since his release last year. He is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of a stocky muscular build and with very short hair. He was last seen wearing black jeans, a green top, brown boots and a black jacket. Detective Inspector Marcus Hester, of Dorset police, said: ‘We need to trace him urgently. ‘I would urge any member of the public to contact us immediately if they see him or anyone acting suspiciously. ‘It was a particularly nasty attack on the young woman. ‘She is recovering in the care of her family and being supported by specially trained officers. ‘I am appealing to Mr Goodwin to make contact with us as soon as possibly. ‘I want to make it clear that anyone found to be helping, harbouring or in any way aiding Dean Goodwin will be arrested.’ Goodwin had racked up 31 previous convictions by his late teens when he was sentenced to 15 months at the Portland Young Offenders’ Institute. He was released early from the sentence and just over a month later Goodwin attacked a 63-year-old woman in broad daylight in Poole. Five days after that attack Goodwin subjected a 13-year-old schoolgirl to an equally vicious and terrifying sex assault in Poole. He was arrested at his grandmother’s home in Ringwood a week later where officers found him hiding in a wardrobe. When he was jailed at Bournemouth Crown Court in 2000 Judge Samuel Wiggs said only an extended period in custody would ensure the public were protected from him. The court heard Goodwin had been devastated by his crimes and was keen to receive help for his sexual offending. Goodwin was arrested in 2009 when he briefly went on the run after failing to announce himself at a bail hostel in the West Country. He was arrested after police found him on the Isle of Wight and sent back to jail for two more years for breaching his bail conditions.
