Walsall Sexual Abuser
Wajid Ali lured a woman into his Walsall home in March 2019 before lunging at her, causing both to fall down the stairs. During the attack, he sexually assaulted her, but the victim managed to scream out, alerting a neighbour who then contacted the police. Officers arrived promptly, detained Ali, who initially denied attacking the woman, who is in her 30s. The victim has since been praised for her bravery in speaking out about the incident, recalling the assault and providing strong evidence that led to Ali’s conviction.
The 43-year-old, of Webster Road, Walsall, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court last Friday to four-and-a-half years in prison. He was also ordered to be on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Detective Constable Gina Tonks, who led the investigation for West Midlands Police, commented: "The woman was courageous enough to make a statement and support a police investigation. Ali is a dangerous man, and she has helped ensure he’s lost his freedom and cannot do the same to anyone else."
She added, "She hopes that by coming forward, other victims—including those from the Asian community like herself—may feel brave enough to speak out in the future."
The police reaffirm their commitment to supporting victims of assault, emphasizing that they will provide full assistance as they work to bring attackers to justice.
