HALIFAX MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN MAJOR POLICE CONVICTION
Two more men have been sentenced for child sexual abuse, bringing the total number of convictions in this case to 22 after an extensive investigation by West Yorkshire Police that began eight years ago.The police had initially received a report in 2016, and due to court restrictions, several trials took place at Bradford Crown Court between 2021 and 2024.
The allegations involved separate offenses of sexual abuse and exploitation of four teenage girls.
Specifically, Wajid Adalat, a 47-year-old from Halifax, was convicted of rape in a trial that commenced at Bradford Crown Court in January 2024.
Following his conviction, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The investigation uncovered that Adalat had engaged in serious sexual misconduct involving a vulnerable young girl, an offence part of a broader pattern of abuse.
The authorities emphasized that the legal process and restrictions delayed the full disclosure of details until today.
The police have highlighted the importance of reporting child sexual abuse and have provided contact details for immediate and non-immediate dangers.
This case is part of a wider effort by the police to support victims and survivors of such crimes, with campaigns like "When You Are Ready" aimed at encouraging reports and providing assistance.
The story includes images of Zaheer Iqbal and Wajid Adalat, taken from West Yorkshire Police, confirming their involvement in the crimes with Iqbal also receiving a 10-year sentence for his role in the abuse.
This case underscores the serious and ongoing challenge of addressing child sexual abuse in the community.
