VINNIE PINKHAM SENTENCED IN LONDON FOR PREYING ON CHILDREN ONLINE
A disturbing case involving a paedophile who groomed a child through online gaming has resulted in a severe prison sentence for Vinnie Pinkham. The 19-year-old, formerly residing at Catalina House in Eltham and later at Restons Crescent, Greenwich, was sentenced to seven years in prison and received a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday, March 28.
The investigation, led by the Metropolitan Police in collaboration with Greater Manchester Police and North Wales Police over three years, uncovered Pinkham’s abusive actions.
The police first became aware of Pinkham in 2021 when they seized his computer and placed him under a curfew during an investigation into indecent images.
Although that initial investigation was later dropped, Pinkham continued his activities.
Shortly after returning his computer, Pinkham contacted an eight-year-old child via PlayStation while playing Minecraft.
Court documents revealed he added the child on Instagram and asked for indecent photos in exchange for V-Bucks, a virtual currency used in Fortnite.
Parents, horrified upon discovering the inappropriate images on their child's phone, took screenshots of the chat logs.
These logs included questions from the child like, 'What does show butt mean?' and 'How do I get a picture of my own butt?'.
Pinkham was arrested at his Eltham address at 6:30 am on November 11, 2021.
During the raid, officers seized his Xbox and phone.
In police interviews, Pinkham denied any wrongdoing, claiming the child was 'talking inappropriately' and calling him a 'perv'.
He also falsely stated he couldn’t remember the child's username.
Despite this, Pinkham was released under investigation for a second time.
However, on December 14, 2022, Pinkham’s criminal activities resumed.
He posed as a seven-year-old boy on Snapchat to groom a six-year-old child, even threatening to harm the child's parents in exchange for indecent images and sending obscene photos of himself.
When a family member of the victim became aware of the infiltration, they contacted Pinkham’s account asking for an explanation.
Pinkham falsely claimed the messages were from an imaginary eight-year-old brother suffering after the loss of his father.
Pinkham was re-arrested on April 13, 2023.
Authorities seized his devices and a top-up card linked to the messaging account.
An inspection of his phone revealed hundreds of indecent images and searches related to bestiality.
Pinkham’s initial hearing on January 12 was postponed to verify his age and consider mitigation.
During the hearing, prosecutor Allister Walker presented emotional victim impact statements.
One parent described the profound emotional scars left on their child and family, stating, 'It is truly hard to say how much this had an emotional and mental effect on not just [my child] but the whole house and family.
This horrific crime will leave emotional scars that will not heal.
I never thought anything like this would happen to my children.
The guilt will stay with me forever for not being able to protect [my child] from this despicable predator.' Another victim's family member shared their feelings of guilt and frustration, asking why Pinkham, being of age, chose to target children.
'He’s ruined so many lives for his own bitter pleasure,' they remarked.
The extensive investigation, as reported by MyLondon, took three years and involved meticulous interviews and analysis of disturbing material.
Detective Constable Amy Burnell praised the effort, emphasizing the professionalism of the police teams involved.
She said, 'They viewed images of horrific material seized from the suspect and had to grade the severity of the indecency of the images for viewing in court.
They did this efficiently and professionally while remaining committed to the case.' Pinkham was convicted on multiple counts, including two counts of sexual communication with a child, two counts of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, three counts of possessing extreme pornography, and possession of a prohibited image.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting children from predators who exploit online platforms.
Detective Burnell concluded, 'Pinkham exploited children's youthful ignorance for his personal gratification.
We are determined to find and bring to justice anyone seeking to harm young people across London.
Our goal is to ensure that predators who threaten children's safety are removed from the streets and face justice.'
