VINAYAK RAMA AND REYNOLD CARVALHO SENTENCED IN LEICESTER FOR HORRIFIC CRIME AGAINST 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Leicester, two men, Vinayak Rama and Reynold Carvalho, were convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms for the heinous assault of a vulnerable 12-year-old girl.The incident took place in October of the previous year, and the details reveal a calculated and predatory attack that has left a lasting impact on the victim and her family.
According to court reports, Rama, aged 29 and residing on Kashmir Road in the St Matthews area of Leicester, received a sentence of ten years and six months after admitting to two counts of rape.
Carvalho, also aged 29 and living on Prestwold Road in the Uppingham Road district of Leicester, was sentenced to eight years and three months following his guilty plea to a single count of rape.
The court heard that the two men lured the young girl into a car and took her to a secluded woodland area, where the assault occurred.
Police investigations indicated that the pair might have been involved in other similar offenses, either together or separately.
Authorities urged anyone who believed they or someone they knew might have been victimized by Rama or Carvalho to come forward and assist ongoing inquiries.
The case highlighted the disturbing nature of the crime, especially considering the victim’s age and vulnerability.
It was revealed that Rama had previously attempted to engage the girl in conversation on two separate occasions before the incident.
On the day of the assault, October 1, the girl was walking along Holden Street in the Belgrave area of Leicester when Rama, who was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Carvalho, persuaded her to get into the car.
Once inside, Rama and Carvalho drove her to a wooded area she was familiar with, where the assault took place.
During the sentencing, Judge Robert Brown described the attack as a joint effort, emphasizing the vulnerability of the young girl.
The judge stated, “She was taken to a relatively isolated spot before the sex took place.
It was a joint attack.
This child was a particularly vulnerable person due to her extreme youth and personal circumstances.
There was a degree of planning and you acted together in committing these offences.” Judge Brown further explained that Rama played the leading role in the assault, having met the girl prior to the incident and knowing where to find her.
He detailed how Rama removed her lower clothing and engaged in sexual intercourse while Carvalho remained in the driver’s seat.
The girl was forced to comply with Rama’s instructions, including pulling up her clothes after the assault.
Rama then raped her again, and Carvalho engaged in a penetrative sex act.
In mitigation, Mary Prior argued that Rama’s actions were influenced by the fact that the girl appeared older than her age, which contributed to his guilt of statutory rape.
She also noted that there was no evidence of force being used during the attack.
For Carvalho, defense lawyer Georgina Gibbs highlighted that her client had recently become a father and made a reckless decision in the heat of the moment.
She emphasized that Carvalho was unaware of the girl’s vulnerability and background, and that he remains in a relationship with his partner.
Both men were placed under strict conditions following their sentencing.
They are now subject to a sexual offences prevention order and will be registered as sex offenders for life.
Additionally, a restraining order has been issued, prohibiting any future contact with the victim.
The case has left a lasting scar on the Leicester community, raising concerns about the safety of vulnerable children and the importance of vigilance in protecting them from predatory individuals.
