VIKTOR BURTON FROM TAUNTON JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN BRISTOL AND TAUNTON
In May 2021, Viktor Burton, an 86-year-old from Taunton, was sentenced to prison after being found in possession of over 400 indecent images of children, including 246 of the most serious types of abuse.Burton, who resides in Sycamore Walk, has an extensive history of child sexual abuse offenses, and a judge at Taunton Crown Court described him as “an entrenched paedophile.” The latest conviction involved downloading numerous child abuse images across five devices owned by Burton.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children and breaching a previously imposed Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Recorder Ignatius Hughes QC stated, “The truth is you are an entrenched paedophile.
You have convictions dating back over many years for sexual assault on underage girls and boys and also possession of indecent images of children.” Despite his age, the court recorded that Burton showed no signs of ceasing his offending, with probation reports indicating he was not suitable for a sex offender treatment program.
Burton was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison and is expected to serve half of his sentence before being released on licence.
The court was told the images were discovered on five devices belonging to Burton, who showed no remorse.
In July 1998, Burton, then 63, was sentenced to over 14 years in prison for a series of child sex crimes spanning 21 years.
He had carried out multiple sexual assaults on children as young as eight, with police uncovering evidence including videos of Burton performing sex acts with victims.
He was identified after police traced a paedophile video found at another suspect’s residence.
Burton admitted to 12 counts of taking indecent photographs of children, 24 counts of indecent assault against children, and three counts of indecency with children.
His arrest followed the operation known as 'Operation Rite', which involved raids on his caravan home in Portishead, near Bristol.
Authorities seized child exploitation videos, images, and a shop mannequin doll of a young child.
Burton's criminal activities spanned decades, with significant consequences for his victims and ongoing legal repercussions for him.
