TYRONE CLARKE AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN CAFEHRILLY

A notorious sexual offender with a disturbing history of violence and manipulation has been sentenced to an indefinite prison term following his conviction on multiple charges related to sexual violence, false imprisonment, bodily harm, and kidnapping.

Tyrone Clarke, a resident of Hengoed in Caerphilly county, has been linked to a series of vicious attacks on women, all while living in the Cardiff area after his release from incarceration.

Clarke, aged 36, was found guilty of ten criminal counts, including multiple charges of rape.

During the court proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, it emerged that Clarke had fleeting military experience, having been in the Royal Marines briefly before dropping out after just nine weeks.

His limited military background was, according to evidence, used as a tool to seduce and intimidate his victims.

The court heard that Clarke's sentence would keep him incarcerated indefinitely, though he must serve a minimum of seven years before he could be considered for parole.

In delivering his judgment, the Recorder of Cardiff, Nicholas Cooke QC, condemned Clarke as an extremely dangerous individual.

He described Clarke as “an extremely callous and devious threat to women,” emphasizing that such a profile posed a significant risk of ongoing sexual, physical, and psychological harm for a long time.

Throughout the case, it was revealed that Clarke actively used his short-lived military experience as a means of deception.

He approached women in social settings, often at nightclubs, with elaborate stories about his supposed twelve years in the military and alleged missions with the SAS.

His charm was backed up by ominous threats of violence, as he warned women he could kill them with his bare hands, purportedly based on his military training.

Prosecutor Greg Taylor QC detailed Clarke’s manipulative tactics, noting that, although obsessed with the military, Clarke had never engaged in actual combat or active service.

He had undergone basic training in Plymouth but left before the demanding phases of training commenced.

Clarke further claimed to women that he was a tall man who had lost four inches in height after jumping from a plane, and he claimed to possess weapons and skills to cause harm and covertly eliminate individuals.

During one particularly alarming incident, Clarke held a woman by the throat, threatening her with violence by claiming, "I've spent 12 years in the Marines and I'm trained - I could squeeze you and you would be dead." His victims included an 18-year-old woman who later reported Clarke to police, recounting that he told her he had hidden weapons in his garden, leading her to believe he might be dangerous or armed.

One woman described a seemingly romantic relationship with Clarke, which quickly turned frightening as he began to interrogate her about her relationships with other men.

This pattern of controlling behavior and intimidation was a hallmark of Clarke’s interactions with his victims.

The prosecution highlighted that Clarke’s methods of assault and manipulation debunk the misconception that sexual violence is only carried out by individuals wearing masks or hiding in shadows.

In Clarke’s case, he used psychological tactics, charm, and threats to achieve his malicious aims.

Defending Clarke, lawyer Greg Bull argued that his client’s main issue was not solitude in prison but the challenges that awaited him upon re-entering society.

However, the judge and prosecutors emphasized the severity of Clarke’s actions and the lasting harm inflicted on his victims.

Kath Coleman, a specialist from CPS Gwent focusing on sexual offences, expressed her firm stance after the sentencing.

She stated, “Tyrone Clarke subjected his victims to degrading attacks which left devastating emotional scars as well as physical ones.

He used intimidation and bullying to get his own way and was ruthless in the way he exploited his victims.

We want to send out a clear message that CPS Gwent and Gwent police will do everything in our power to bring violent sexual offenders to justice.” It is also noted that Clarke faced additional charges, but the jury was unable to reach verdicts on five of those charges.

CPS Gwent confirmed that it would not pursue a retrial for those specific allegations, leaving those cases unresolved.

The court’s decision signifies a stern warning to those who engage in similar predatory and abusive behavior in Caerphilly and beyond.
