PETERLEE WOMAN SPARED JAIL AFTER ATTACKS ON PREGNANT WIFE
A Peterlee woman has avoided jail after admitting three assaults against her pregnant wife in a case said to have involved repeated threats with a hammer.Tyler Marie Jones, who is understood to have links to Peterlee, Easington and Seaham, appeared before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on June 16, 2026.
According to a Durham Witness Care Unit letter, Jones pleaded guilty to three counts of assault.
The court sentenced Jones to a Community Order, meaning she must complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation activity by September 15, 2027.
She was also ordered to pay £400 compensation to the victim.
The case involved Jones’ pregnant wife, who was the victim of the assaults.
It is alleged the violence included repeated threats involving the use of a hammer, leaving the victim subjected to fear and intimidation during pregnancy.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Jones was not jailed.
The court order means Jones must comply with the terms imposed by magistrates.
The Witness Care letter warns that failure to comply with any part of the Community Order can result in the case being referred back to court, where the offender may be re-sentenced for the original offences or fined.
Jones is also said to have used or been known by the surnames Clarkson and Drewett.
A source close to the case said the victim had been left deeply affected by the ordeal, particularly because the assaults happened while she was pregnant.
The sentence has raised anger among those who believe violent domestic abuse cases, especially those involving pregnant victims and weapon threats, should be treated with far greater severity.
Jones now has until September 2027 to complete the unpaid work and rehabilitation requirements imposed by the court.
