COUPLE BANNED FROM KEEPING PETS AFTER DOG FOUND 'MUMMIFIED' IN HOME
A couple has been prohibited from owning animals for a decade after their dog was discovered mummified in their abandoned residence.Tyler Bartlett, aged 26, and Tayla-Louise Phillips, aged 29, both residents of Beechwood Road in Sully, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 4, admitting that they failed to care for their dog, Bonnie.
The remains of the dog were found inside a Cardiff property in a state of advanced decay and neglect.
Gemma Black, deputy chief inspector, stated: "This was a distressing case for everyone involved, and we appreciate the assistance of the police and housing association." "Every animal should be treated with kindness and respect, and those responsible for pets must ensure their welfare needs are fully met." On February 21, 2025, RSPCA officer Kirsty Morgan, accompanied by police and housing officials, responded to reports of a deceased animal inside the property.
The previous tenants had been evicted in November 2024, leaving the property in filthy conditions.
Ms.
Morgan described a strong smell upon entry, with "rubbish, clothes, and children's toys scattered across the floor." Bonnie's body was located in the kitchen and exhibited clear signs of severe neglect, including maggot infestation, overgrown nails, and advanced decomposition.
The court sentenced both individuals to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, along with a 25-day rehabilitation program.
Additionally, they were ordered to pay £200 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge.
