TULSI RAM BHANDARI SEXUALLY ASSAULTS WOMAN ON DUNFERMLINE TO EDINBURGH HAYMARKET TRAIN
A serious incident of sexual assault occurred aboard a train traveling between Dunfermline and Edinburgh Haymarket, involving a man named Tulsi Ram Bhandari.The assault took place on the afternoon of July 13, 2019, when Bhandari, who resides in Dunfermline, engaged in inappropriate and criminal behavior towards a female passenger during the journey.
Following a thorough investigation conducted by the British Transport Police, Bhandari was brought before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, July 15, 2021.
The court found him guilty of sexual assault, a conviction that underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are treated on the UK’s rail network.
The case garnered attention not only for the nature of the crime but also for the swift response by law enforcement authorities.
In sentencing, the court opted for a community-based punishment rather than imprisonment.
Bhandari was ordered to complete 150 hours of community payback, a form of community service designed to hold offenders accountable while allowing them to remain integrated within society.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years, a measure intended to monitor and manage the risk of reoffending.
Detective Crawford Gillies of the British Transport Police expressed his support for the conviction, emphasizing the importance of safety and respect on public transportation.
“Sexual offending will absolutely not be tolerated on the rail network.
Everyone has the right to travel and feel safe,” he stated.
Gillies also highlighted the effectiveness of the police response, noting that the quick arrest and subsequent court proceedings were made possible because of the victim’s prompt report of the incident.
