TREVOR WHITE FROM FELIXSTOWE SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN IPSWICH

In a case that has shocked the local community of Felixstowe, Trevor White, a 70-year-old former British Telecom (BT) employee and a dedicated safeguarding officer at his church, has been sentenced for possessing a significant number of child abuse images. The incident came to light after police officers responded to information that led them to White’s residence in Felixstowe in June of the previous year.

During the police investigation, authorities seized various pieces of computer equipment from White’s home. An expert analysis of the seized devices revealed a disturbing collection of indecent images. Specifically, the investigation uncovered 12 images classified at the most severe Level A category, 30 images at Level B, and an additional 123 images at the lowest Level C category, according to prosecutor Charles Myatt.

White, who resides on Fairfield Avenue in Felixstowe, initially denied three charges of making indecent images of children. However, prior to the commencement of his trial at Ipswich Crown Court in July, he changed his plea to guilty, admitting to the offenses. The crimes spanned a period from 2008 to 2016, indicating a prolonged period of offending.

Sentencing was postponed to allow for a pre-sentence report, but ultimately, Judge John Devaux delivered his judgment. White was sentenced to a 10-month prison term, which was suspended for 18 months, meaning he would not serve time immediately but would be under supervision during this period. Additionally, White was ordered to complete a 35-day rehabilitation program aimed at addressing his behavior.

During the sentencing, Judge Devaux expressed his concern about the apparent contradiction between White’s role as a safeguarding officer and his actions. The judge remarked, “I am not sure how you have reconciled your role as safeguarding officer at your church with your ingrained habit of viewing child pornography.” The judge further stated, “You deliberately sought out this material,” emphasizing the premeditated nature of White’s offending.

It was noted that White, who has a background in computers and cybersecurity, had been viewing indecent images of children for approximately eight years. His technical skills apparently enabled him to conceal his activities effectively, making detection more difficult.

In addition to the suspended prison sentence, White was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that will last for ten years. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions aimed at protecting the community from further harm.
