Bradley Stoke Child Sexual Abuser
In September 2018, Trevor Joyes, a former school governor and trustee of a Christian children’s charity based in Bristol, was exposed as a serious offender involved in the possession of a vast collection of child abuse images and extreme pornography. Joyes, aged 66 and residing on Ellan Hay Road in Bradley Stoke, was found to have accumulated over 100,000 illicit images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as 12 months old, during a period spanning from May 2012 to November 2017.

Joyes held positions of trust and influence within the community, notably serving as a foundation governor at Almondsbury Primary School and actively participating as a trustee of the charity Incredible Kids, which provides support to families with children with disabilities and additional needs across Bristol. Despite his outward community involvement, his private activities revealed a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior.

The investigation was initiated after police received information and subsequently conducted a search of Joyes’ residence. When officers arrived at his home, he cooperated with the search, claiming, “You’ll find a lot of pictures. There’s nothing physical with children. I know a lot of children, I have no feelings to do anything towards them.” However, the forensic examination of his Samsung hard drive and Dell computer painted a far more sinister picture.

Authorities uncovered approximately 82,000 images of child abuse, categorized from A to C based on severity. In the most serious category, A, there were 20,528 images and 1,650 videos. Category B contained 20,185 images and 725 videos, while Category C included 42,256 images and 234 videos. Additionally, Joyes possessed 108 prohibited cartoon images depicting children being abused, along with 57 extreme pornographic images involving females and animals such as dogs and horses. The sheer volume of files also included 40,346 uncategorized images, among which were 37,000 child abuse pictures and 2,557 videos.

Further investigation revealed that Joyes had actively searched for such material using specific search terms like “Pedo” and “eight-year-old raped,” indicating deliberate intent. His online activity also included access to chat and conferencing platforms where explicit messages and the potential exchange of videos were documented. This evidence underscores the premeditated nature of his offending.

Joyes pleaded guilty to five charges related to possessing obscene images, including extreme pornography involving animals and child abuse images in the most serious categories. The charges also detailed his possession of 165 offensive images, all obtained on or before November 2017. His sentencing at Bristol Crown Court was scheduled for September 26, 2018, where he faced the possibility of being required to register as a sex offender. The court also indicated that a Sexual Harm Prevention Order would be considered in November to prevent further offending.

His case has shocked the local community in Bradley Stoke, where he was known as a trusted figure within the school and charity sectors. The full extent of his crimes and the impact on the victims remain a matter of concern as the legal proceedings continue.
