West Felton Child Sexual Abuser
In December 2014, a disturbing case emerged involving Trevor Hulse, a man from West Felton, near Oswestry, who was linked to the creation and possession of indecent images of children. Hulse, who previously worked as a dock officer at Shrewsbury Crown Court, appeared before the court to face serious charges related to child exploitation.

Hulse’s background as a court officer, where he had supervised defendants for over a decade, added a layer of shock to the case. His arrest followed an investigation that uncovered his involvement in downloading and creating indecent images. According to police reports, Hulse, residing at Nursery Close in West Felton, admitted that his interest in such material was sparked by curiosity, which developed after hearing about similar cases during his tenure as a prisoner custody officer.

He pleaded guilty to three separate offences, which involved the creation of a total of 187 indecent images of children spanning from April 2006 to September of the previous year. The court was informed that among these images, 11 were classified as the most serious category, depicting scenes involving bondage and other forms of sexual abuse.

In sentencing, Recorder Nicolas Daly acknowledged the gravity of the offences but emphasized that a custodial sentence would not be the most effective means of rehabilitation for Hulse. Instead, he was given a three-year community order that includes supervision and participation in an intensive sex offenders’ treatment program. The judge noted that while custody might be justified for the most serious images, the time constraints of such a sentence would not allow for the necessary rehabilitative efforts.

Furthermore, Hulse was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years and to comply with an indefinite sexual offences prevention order. This order imposes strict restrictions on his future access to and use of any computer equipment, reflecting the seriousness of his offences. Additionally, he was ordered to pay costs amounting to £300.

Hulse, who is currently employed as a delivery driver, had previously worked as a security officer at Shrewsbury Crown Court, employed by the security firm Geo Amey until his departure last year. The police investigation revealed that a desktop computer found at his residence was used in the commission of these offences. Police experts recovered the images after Hulse disclosed the use of software designed for secure deletion of files, which he claimed was used to regularly clean his computer to improve its efficiency, not specifically to hide illegal material.

Hulse admitted to police that he had deleted the images because he knew what he was doing was wrong. His legal representative, Mr. Stephen Scully, stated that Hulse’s actions had caused significant embarrassment to himself and his family, especially given his previous occupation and reputation. He explained that most of the images had been deleted and that the software used was intended for routine cleaning rather than concealment.

Earlier in November 2014, Hulse appeared in court to admit to making indecent images of children. During that hearing, he looked visibly distressed as he pleaded guilty to creating 187 images over a period from April 2006 to September 2013. The court was told that 11 of these images fell into the most serious Category A classification, with the remaining majority, 167 images, categorized as the least serious, Category C. Judge Peter Barrie adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report and granted Hulse bail, pending sentencing.
