TRENT JOHNSON AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER BREACHES IN DURHAM AND BISHOP AUCKLAND

A man from County Durham, Trent Johnson, has found himself back in court after authorities uncovered that he had violated the strict conditions imposed on him following previous convictions for sex offences.

Johnson, 22 years old and residing in Bishop Auckland, is under close scrutiny due to his past criminal record and the legal restrictions that came with it.

Johnson was initially convicted of sexual offences and received a suspended sentence in March of the previous year.

At that time, he was ordered to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order and was registered as a sex offender, with the legal obligation to follow specific conditions, notably a ban on deleting his internet browsing history.

These measures are intended to monitor and restrict his online activities to prevent further offences.

However, on November 8 of the current year, police officers paid a visit to Johnson's residence in Bishop Auckland, specifically at his home on South View.

During their visit, the officers seized his iPhone for examination.

When they inspected the device, they found evidence indicating that Johnson had intentionally deleted his internet search history, an act that directly breaches the terms of his supervision order.

In addition to this, authorities discovered that Johnson had created pseudonymous accounts or aliases on chat applications, namely the Yubo app, which he failed to report to law enforcement in accordance with his legal obligations.

This breach led to Johnson’s immediate arrest.

Subsequently, he appeared at Durham Crown Court on the Friday following the incident, where he faced charges of breaching both the sexual harm prevention order and the notification requirements associated with his sex offender registration.

Johnson entered a guilty plea to all charges.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor David Robinson-Young detailed the case, emphasizing Johnson’s status as a registered sex offender.

He explained that during the police raid on November 8, officers found Johnson in his bedroom.

The officers noticed a cable running beneath his pillow, which they pulled out, revealing an active iPhone connected to his bed.

The phone displayed the Yubo live feed at the time of discovery.

The device was promptly seized and thoroughly examined.

The police’s investigation revealed that, despite the absence of internet browsing history on the device, Johnson had been accessing various online sites, which he was legally prohibited from doing without proper disclosure.

Court records indicated that Johnson had admitted to deleting his internet browsing history because he felt embarrassed by his pornographic searches.

Furthermore, Johnson acknowledged that he had created multiple usernames on the Yubo chat app, including one named Memphis21, which he failed to report to authorities, thus violating his legal obligations.

This incident marked Johnson’s second breach of his restrictions.

His previous violation in August last year had led to the activation of 18 months of his previously suspended sentence back in September.

At the time of the latest court proceedings, Johnson was appearing via a video link from HMP Durham, where he was detained.

Representing Johnson, lawyer Stephen Constantine argued that the only mitigating factors were his guilty pleas and the fact that he was diagnosed with learning difficulties at age 14.

Constantine also pointed out that Johnson had been cooperating with mental health services and that his actions demonstrated some immaturity.

Ultimately, the court judge, Recorder Ian Mullarkey, classified Johnson’s behaviour as serious offending.

He sentenced him to a prison term of 18 months, underscoring the gravity of breaching such stringent supervision orders and the potential risk posed by his violations.

This case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the monitoring and management of sexual offenders and the importance of strict adherence to legal conditions designed to protect the public.
