2011: DUDLEY HUSBAND JAILED FOR BRUTALLY ATTACKING EX-WIFE
A man from Dudley has been sentenced to 44 weeks in prison after he assaulted his ex-wife by punching and kicking her upon discovering text messages from another man on her phone.Judge Jonathan Gosling characterized Zaman as a controlling and aggressive individual who, following the end of their relationship, refused to grant his ex-wife independence.
Zaman had questioned his wife about the messages before launching a prolonged assault at their family residence on Four Winds Road in Birmingham.
His jealousy also led him to seize her computer and phone, resulting in physical scars.
Zaman confessed to injuring his former spouse, who was hospitalized with a wound near her eye, along with significant bruising and swelling.
He also pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, which resulted in an 18-month driving ban.
The marriage was known to be tumultuous, with earlier instances of violence prior to their separation and divorce.
The Walsall resident entered the home, discovered the messages, and then assaulted his wife, demanding to know who sent them.
This incident prompted medical treatment for his wife.
During proceedings, defence lawyer Paul Reid acknowledged Zaman's struggles with anger and shame, linking the violence to jealousy.
He also expressed hope of restoring the relationship, which was effectively destroyed by the discovery of the texts.
