LONDON MAN JAILED FOR KILLING WIFE IN FRONT OF SONS
Tourgay Djevdet, a 50-year-old man, was convicted of killing his wife, Aysel Djevdet, at their home in Palmers Green in north London.
The court heard that he strangled his wife in front of their two young sons, aged five and three, following an argument.
The attack endured for at least 20 seconds, during which one child observed blood emerging from the mother’s mouth.
Djevdet admitted to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, asserting that he was suffering from a depressive illness with psychotic symptoms at the time of the incident.
Psychiatric reports confirmed his mental state, and he claimed that his wife had been throwing plates at him, which led to his violent actions.
Judge Timothy Pontius stressed the importance of the severity of the act, stating: “Any intentional taking of human life, in any circumstances, is extremely grave.
You ended the life of your wife of nine years in front of your children, with one at least witnessing her death.” Djevdet was subsequently sentenced to an eight-year imprisonment.
