Child rapist sentenced to 18 years after decades of brutal attacks

CHILD RAPIST SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS AFTER DECADES OF BRUTAL ATTACKS

A 62-year-old man named Tony Humphreys, residing on Arthur Evans Close in Wootton near Abingdon, has received an 18-year prison sentence for a severe series of child sexual assaults.

He was convicted on 11 counts of indecent assault and one count of rape.

The conviction followed a week-long trial at Oxford Crown Court, during which it was revealed that Humphreys repeatedly assaulted the same victim over several decades.

The presiding judge, Peter Ross, described Humphreys as a 'brute' and acknowledged that his actions had devastating effects on the victim’s life.

The crimes took place during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

The judge highlighted the significant emotional toll on the victim, referring to some of the evidence as 'heartbreaking.' As Humphreys was escorted to serve his sentence, he insisted on his innocence, stating, “I’m not guilty your honour, I have done nothing and you are sending a guilty man down,” prompting the judge to respond, “I know I’m sending a guilty man down.” The judge also expressed admiration for the victim’s courage in coming forward and her conduct during the proceedings, offering his respect.

DS Sarah Berry expressed satisfaction with the outcome, saying, “I’m extremely happy with the verdict.

I always believed the victim and I’m glad the jury did as well.” The case focused on a long history of offenses, underscoring the lasting impact of Humphreys’ abuse.
