FURTHER SENTENCE FOR KARATE COACH WHO ABUSED BOYS
A former karate instructor has received an additional sentence after admitting to past sexual abuse involving two boys.Tony Castle, aged 67, confessed to committing ten counts of indecent assault on the boys between 1987 and 2002 while working as a karate coach in Shropshire.
The first victim was a student of Castle's, while the second was not and was abused over a four-year period at multiple locations, according to West Mercia Police.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court, Castle received a seven-year prison term, which will run alongside a 10-year sentence he was given in 2024 for similar crimes.
He is presently serving his previous sentence at HMP Whatton in Nottinghamshire for the sexual abuse of two other children.
These convictions are older, with Castle having been sentenced to 10 years in 2011 for historical sexual offenses against minors.
Both victims came forward and reported the abuse in 2024.
Detective Constable Jake Garratt stated that the sentence reflects the 'serious and lasting harm' Castle caused, emphasizing that he exploited his trusted position and that justice is being served.
Garratt also commended the bravery of the victims and reaffirmed ongoing support for survivors.
