NORTH SHIELDS MAN JAILED FOR MALICIOUS THREATS AFTER MURDER CONVICTION REVEAL
A convicted murderer named Tony Brown has left his new partner terrified by issuing a series of sinister threats after revealing his past.Brown, who served nearly 25 years for murder, was re-jailed for threatening his partner following the end of their relationship.
The court heard that Brown met the woman earlier this year via a dating site shortly after being released from prison.
However, her concerns grew due to his controlling behavior, leading her to end the relationship.
Subsequently, Brown bombarded her with malicious texts and calls, threatening harm including burning her house, burying her son, and setting fire to her local pub.
On July 11, at Brown's home, a confrontation occurred when she was there, and he accused her of communicating with other men and disclosed his murder conviction, which she was aware of but not its nature.
After the breakup, Brown sent hundreds of messages, many containing threats like, "I will f*** him," and demanded to check if she was at home to verify her whereabouts.
He also left her 22 voicemails in 12 hours, containing sinister threats to harm her and her family.
He threatened to burn her house, kill her son, and burn down a pub she frequented, stating, "I will get banged back up.
Prison is my home." The police were contacted on July 12, and even as they arrived at his door, Brown continued to try to intimidate her through messages, showing he knew they had been contacted.
His victim expressed her fear that Brown would harm her or her family, stating, "I'm terrified.
I'm terrified Tony will come to my house and hurt me or my family like he said he would.
I believe he is capable of harming us." Brown admitted to being at her address twice after their breakup.
Originally charged with stalking, he pleaded guilty to malicious communication.
He was sentenced to 15 months and is now in custody under his life licence with a requirement to satisfy the Parole Board before release.
An indefinite restraining order bans him from contacting the victim.
Judge Amanda Rippon commented on the seriousness of his threats, emphasizing the impact of revealing his murder conviction and the threats to harm his partner's family.
She noted that the murder involved an attack on a man following the partner's inappropriate comments to him, and Brown also attacked another man over conduct toward her while in prison.
Brown has 20 convictions, including the 1995 murder and two burglaries in 2019 and 2020.
He was released from prison in January this year.
It was also revealed that he failed to notify probation of his relationship, breaching his licence.
His lawyer expressed remorse for his actions, and he apologized via a video link from prison, promising not to bother the victim again.
