TOMMY ALLINGTON OF PENLAN SENTENCED TO OVER 18 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN SWANSEA
In a harrowing case that has shocked the Swansea community, Tommy Allington, a 25-year-old former primary school teaching assistant from Penlan, has been sentenced to more than 18 years in prison for a series of heinous child sex offenses. The conviction follows a detailed investigation that uncovered a disturbing pattern of abuse, including the filming and photographing of himself sexually assaulting a baby, and the sharing of these vile images with other paedophiles online.Allington’s crimes came to light after police executed a search warrant at his residence in the Penlan area of Swansea in April. The authorities had been alerted by intelligence suggesting that indecent images were being uploaded to an Instagram account linked to him. During the search, officers seized multiple electronic devices for examination. Although initial checks on these devices yielded no evidence, a subsequent search of the attic revealed a hidden Alcatel phone. The discovery of this device marked a turning point in the investigation, as it contained over 1,500 indecent images, including 252 classified as Category A, which depict the most severe forms of child sexual abuse.
Further analysis of the phone uncovered a disturbing collection of photographs and videos that Allington had taken himself. These visual recordings showed him engaging in sexual acts with a young boy on multiple occasions. The police also found evidence that Allington had been sharing these images with other paedophiles via the messaging app Telegram, where he used the username AngelBoy. In conversations retrieved from the app, Allington and his contacts discussed the supposed advantages of abusing infants, citing their inability to report or resist the abuse as a reason for targeting such young children. The defendant’s online activities included boasting about his actions and discussing the sexual exploitation of children, which added to the severity of his crimes.
Once the police identified the young victim in the images and videos, they contacted his parents. The mother confirmed that her son was the child depicted in the disturbing material, and both parents provided statements to the court describing the profound and lasting impact of Allington’s abuse. The father expressed his loss of trust in others and revealed that his son sometimes appears to enter a trance-like state, while the mother described her world as having “fallen apart,” emphasizing how their family had been devastated by Allington’s actions.
Allington, who resides on Heol Cadifor in Penlan, Swansea, had previously pleaded guilty to 17 counts, including child rape, sexual assault, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, possessing indecent images of children, distributing such images, and possessing prohibited images. It is important to note that he has no prior convictions and that his offending was not connected to his employment in schools.
During the sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court, the judge expressed grave concern about the danger Allington posed to children, both now and in the future. Given his age and the nature of his crimes, the judge deemed him a dangerous offender and ordered an extended sentence to ensure public safety. The court sentenced him to a total of 24 years and eight months, comprising 18 years and eight months in prison, followed by an extended license period of six years. Under the terms of his sentence, Allington must serve at least two-thirds of his custodial time before being eligible to apply for parole, with the final decision resting with the Parole Board.
Furthermore, Allington was designated a lifelong registered sex offender and was subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, reflecting the serious concern about his potential risk to children in the community. The case has left a lasting scar on the victims’ families and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift action in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
