TOM PIGGOT SENTENCED IN SWANSEA FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON CHILDREN
A former swimming coach has been handed a lengthy prison sentence of nine years after being found guilty of sexually abusing three young children.The individual responsible, Tom Piggot, aged 21 and originally from Welshpool, faced a series of serious criminal charges that culminated in his conviction at Mold Crown Court in July.
Throughout the trial, Piggot maintained his innocence, denying all allegations.
However, the court found sufficient evidence to convict him on a total of ten counts, including two counts of rape.
The charges also encompassed the possession of indecent videos and images depicting children, many of which were classified as among the most severe categories of child exploitation material.
During the proceedings, Piggot claimed that his electronic devices had been hacked, suggesting that the incriminating content was not his own doing.
Despite this assertion, the jury rejected his defense, and the court's verdict was based on the substantial evidence presented.
Following the sentencing on Monday, Detective Constable Steve Williams from Dyfed Powys Police emphasized the importance of the victims' bravery.
He stated that the conviction would not have been possible without the courage of the children who came forward to testify.
Detective Williams also remarked that some of the images found on Piggot’s devices were among the most disturbing he had ever encountered.
In a statement issued by the Crown Prosecution Service, Sandra Subacchi highlighted the gravity of the crimes.
She noted that Piggot had claimed he had not engaged in any sexual contact with his young victims and insisted that his devices had been hacked.
These claims, she explained, were ultimately rejected by the jury.
Subacchi reaffirmed the CPS’s commitment to combating rape and child exploitation, praising the victims for their bravery in speaking out and ensuring justice was served in this case.
