December 2007 Net perv jailed after police sting A paedophile caught in an undercover police sting as he tried to meet an underage girl he groomed online has been jailed for nine months. Toby Mapson, of Upper Teddington Road, Hampton Wick, also had indecent images on his computer with titles describing children as young as seven being abused. The 32-year-old chatted online to someone he thought was an underage girl and even sent her a lewd picture of himself. But the girl’ was actually an undercover police officer. Mapson was arrested on August 16 after he went to meet his chatroom correspondent. Prosecutor Peter Zinner told the Old Bailey: “Following the exchange of numerous messages between them, arrangements were made to meet. “Of course, when Mr Mapson turned up, it was police officers and not the girl.” Mapson admitted to charges of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming on August 16 this year, attempting to cause a child to watch a sex act on July 3, 10 counts of making indecent images on August 7, and one count of possessing 23 indecent images on August 16. Mapson is prohibited from owning cameras or computers unless for work or going on the internet and will be on the sex offenders register for 10 years. He will also have to comply with an indefinite sexual offences prevention order banning him from contact with children unless authorised by the police.
