NOTTINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR HAVING SEX WITH 15-YEAR-OLD AND ASKING HER TO START A FAMILY
A man who had sex with a vulnerable underage girl after meeting her through Facebook was jailed for five years on Friday.Timothy Young was contacted by the 15-year-old girl after she was given his Facebook details by a relative.
He later traveled from his Nottinghamshire home to meet her in the Skegness area where they started a sexual relationship.
Prosecutor Mark Watson told Lincoln Crown Court: "It was through Facebook that contact was made then texting and messaging and speaking on the phone." "They met about a week later with this defendant travelling to Lincolnshire to see her.
At their first meeting when they said their goodbyes he kissed her on the lips.
She was shocked and in her own words felt weirded out." "She agreed to meet again a fortnight later when Young suggested they get together.
The girl agreed and they went on to have a sexual relationship.
The two of them met again at the beach, where they had sex on four occasions.
On the first three occasions, protection was used.
On the fourth occasion, Young asked her if she wanted to start a family, she agreed, and they had sex without protection." "Young knew that the girl was vulnerable, speaking about having anxiety, self-harming problems, and an eating disorder," prosecutor Mark Watson said.
The offences came to light after a relative saw her with Young and challenged her, prompting her to reveal their sexual relationship.
Police contacted Young, who confessed.
Young, 24, of Garden Road, Eastwood, Notts, admitted two charges of sexual activity with a child between 22 July and 14 August 2018.
He was sentenced to five years in prison, placed on the sex offender's register for life, and given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
He was also ordered to stay away from the girl.
Judge Simon Hirst pointed out that Young knew she was vulnerable and that there was a significant age disparity since he was 23 at the time and she was 15.
In mitigation, Steven Gosnell argued the prison sentence would have a devastating effect on Young, who was quite ashamed and scared of incarceration.
