LONGTON WOMAN TIFFANY BARRETT AND CHRISTOPHER SHAW JAILED OVER CHILD SEX OFFENSES AND RECKLESS VIDEOS IN TESCO

In October 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving a woman from Longton, Tiffany Barrett, who was sentenced to prison for her involvement in filming and sharing explicit videos that placed children at risk. Barrett, aged 32, was found guilty of recording herself engaging in sexual acts within a Tesco store, specifically in a changing room, and in other locations where minors could potentially witness her actions.

The investigation into her activities was initiated when an online child sex exploitation team uncovered one of her videos. This discovery led to a deeper probe into her online activities, revealing that she had sent these illicit clips to her boyfriend, Christopher Shaw, a former pub manager. Shaw, also from Longton, was found to have a collection of highly graphic and illegal images depicting child abuse, categorized as Category A, B, and C. His possession of extreme pornography and his role in causing a child to witness a sexual act contributed to his sentencing.

Barrett’s criminal record includes causing a child to witness a sexual act, a serious offense that resulted in her being sentenced to 16 months in prison. Upon her release, she will be subject to strict conditions, including a ban from activities involving children, and she will be registered as a sex offender.

Shaw received a similar sentence of 16 months for his involvement in creating and possessing illegal images, as well as for his role in facilitating the exposure of a child to sexual acts. The court proceedings, held at Stoke Crown Court, heard from prosecutor Darren Whitehead, who detailed Barrett’s admissions. He explained that Barrett had acknowledged sending videos to a man she knew as Chris, who would request her to film herself in unusual and inappropriate locations, including Tesco changing rooms. Shaw would pay her via PayPal, with one instance involving a payment of £40 for a pair of old, dirty socks.

During the trial, Barrett’s defense argued that she was unaware her videos would be shared publicly. Her lawyer described her as a former drug addict who was at the time pursuing a modeling career and claimed she had no knowledge of the extent of Shaw’s activities. The defense also stated that her life had fallen apart as a consequence of her actions. It was revealed that Barrett viewed the videos as a means of quick financial gain, motivated by her aspiration to join the army and her recent involvement in modeling.

This case highlights the serious nature of online exploitation and the dangers posed by individuals who exploit their access to minors and engage in illegal activities involving child abuse images. Both Barrett and Shaw are now serving time for their respective roles in these heinous crimes, with the court emphasizing the importance of safeguarding children from such predatory behavior.
