MAN JAILED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO SPEAK TO YOUNG GIRLS ONLINE
A 44-year-old man who believed he was communicating with underage girls online has been sentenced to prison.Tibor Tompos, residing on Ashfield Road in Shotton, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court for sentencing on the 7th of July.
He had previously admitted to charges including attempting to persuade a girl to engage in sexual acts, trying to cause a child to view sexually explicit images, attempting to communicate sexually with a child, and creating indecent pseudo-photographs of a child.
In May 2024, Tompos initiated sexualized interactions with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl he met online.
Unbeknownst to him, this profile was actually created by a paedophile hunting group as a trap, and he was subsequently arrested by law enforcement.
Police seized and examined his electronic devices, uncovering additional sexualized exchanges with two other accounts he believed belonged to 14-year-old girls.
He sent multiple explicit videos and images of himself and asked for sexualized photos in return, all from accounts that were also decoys.
He received a four-year prison sentence and was ordered to comply with a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Police Constable Becky Bannister from the Online Child Abuse Investigation Team (OCAIT) stated: “Tompos demonstrated he poses a threat to girls by trying to contact three young females via online communication.
“Fortunately, all three profiles were fake, and no child was harmed or became a victim.
We are committed to relentlessly pursuing those involved in online child sexual abuse to safeguard children in North Wales.”
