THOMAS WILSON FROM NEWTON ABBOT ADMITS TO RAPE AND SEXUAL ABUSE CASES IN EXETER CROWN COURT
In November 2016, a man from Newton Abbot, identified as Thomas Wilson, faced serious criminal charges related to sexual offenses involving a young girl.Wilson, aged 24 and residing on Webster Place in Newton Abbot, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual misconduct, including two charges of statutory rape, five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and two additional sexual assault charges involving a minor.
The case was brought before Exeter Crown Court, where Judge Robert Linford presided over the proceedings.
Following Wilson's admission of guilt, the judge decided to adjourn the case until the following month to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by probation services.
During this period, Wilson was released on bail, pending sentencing.
Prosecutor Mr.
Peter Coombe explained that Wilson’s pleas were entered on the basis that he believed the girl involved had consented to the sexual acts.
However, it was acknowledged that the charges of statutory rape were based on the fact that the victim was under the age of 13 at the time of the offenses.
Despite Wilson’s belief that the girl consented, the complainant has maintained that she did not give her consent to the acts.
Mr.
Coombe clarified that the Crown accepted Wilson’s guilty pleas on the understanding that his belief about the girl’s consent was mistaken, but that the actual age of the victim rendered the acts illegal under the law.
The case highlights the serious nature of the charges and the ongoing judicial process to determine appropriate sentencing for Wilson’s admitted offenses.
