THOMAS UTTING FROM SALHOUSE CAUGHT IN DISTURBING FACEBOOK FRAUD SCHEME NEAR NORWICH

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Norfolk community, 18-year-old Thomas Utting of Otter Close, Salhouse, faced serious legal consequences after engaging in a deceptive online scheme targeting young girls.

Utting created a fictitious Facebook profile under the alias 'Josh Reinwood,' posing as a professional photographer in an attempt to lure girls into sharing intimate images.

Utting's actions came to light when authorities uncovered his online activities, which included the solicitation of explicit photographs from underage girls.

The teenager admitted to one count of fraud and four counts of producing indecent images of children under the age of 16 during his appearance at Norwich Crown Court.

His scheme involved convincing young girls to send him photographs, initially of themselves fully clothed, but later escalating to images of them in underwear and topless.

The court was informed that Utting had maintained this fake profile for approximately eight months before being caught.

The deception was eventually exposed when one of the girls searched for 'Josh Reinwood Photography' on Google and discovered a warning on a photography website alerting users that the profile was not genuine.

This discovery prompted a police investigation, leading to a warrant being executed at Utting’s residence.

During the search, authorities found the illicit images stored on his computer.

Utting fully admitted to his misconduct during police interviews, revealing that his alter-ego was a means of escaping bullying in his real life.

The court heard that Utting’s actions could have had serious consequences, especially considering the vulnerability of the young girls involved.

In sentencing, Recorder Guy Ayers emphasized the gravity of Utting’s behavior, stating, “Had you been a little bit older, you would have been going into custody.

Courts will not tolerate this type of behaviour, as it seems to some extent girls who are under 16 or under 18 have to be protected from themselves.” As part of his punishment, Utting was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and placed under a 12-month community supervision order.

The case serves as a stark warning about the dangers of online deception and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation.
