THOMAS THORP-KEEN SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN ESSEX
A man identified as Thomas Thorp-Keen has been handed down a substantial prison sentence of 14 years following his conviction on multiple serious sexual offences involving a minor.Thorp-Keen, aged 23 and residing at Creasen Butt Close in Heybridge, Essex, became the focus of an intensive investigation by Essex Police’s child abuse unit in 2020.
The authorities began scrutinising his contacts with underage girls amid growing concerns about suspicious behaviour.
In response to the troubling findings, authorities imposed a sexual risk order along with a criminal behaviour order on Thorp-Keen.
These legal measures came with strict conditions designed to restrict his interactions with minors, including prohibiting him from being in the unsupervised company of anyone under 18.
However, despite these restrictions, the suspect repeatedly violated the terms, compounding the suspicion and making him a greater threat.
The most serious allegations against Thorp-Keen date back to 2019, when he targeted a 15-year-old girl.
Over the course of several disturbing encounters, he engaged in stalking, coercion, and control tactics to manipulate her.
Police investigations revealed that Thorp-Keen monitored the girl’s movements closely, often waiting for moments when she was alone at her home.
Multiple instances of rape were committed against her during this period.
The suspect’s criminal behaviour escalated in July 2022, culminating in a violent incident that led to his arrest.
Authorities responded after he had raped the girl and then left the scene.
Demonstrating further malicious intent, Thorp-Keen later broke into the girl’s home through a living room window, breaching the court-imposed restrictions.
During this break-in, he threatened to kill her, heightening the severity of his actions.
Following a comprehensive three-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, Thorp-Keen was found guilty of a series of serious crimes, including coercive and controlling behaviour, multiple counts of rape, and breaches of the court orders previously issued to him.
The court proceedings concluded with a sentencing hearing held on Friday, June 9, where models of justice were observed via a secure video link.
In his victim’s impact statement, the young girl described the enduring trauma caused by Thorp-Keen’s actions.
She stated, “I have suffered with anxiety since the rape and controlling behaviour.
He was so controlling that I lost a lot of friendships.
I still find it difficult to talk about my emotions and how I am feeling and I will often shut down.” Her words reflect the deep psychological scars left by her ordeal.
Detective Constable Thomas Olson, leading the investigation, commented on the case, emphasizing Thorp-Keen’s manipulative nature and dangerousness: “Thorpe-Keen is a manipulator.
He is a dangerous individual and has seriously affected the life of the victim.” He praised the victim’s bravery throughout the long and difficult investigation, acknowledging her resilience despite her trauma.
The case highlights both the persistent efforts of Essex Police and the profound impact of child abuse.
Thorp-Keen’s legal punishment aims to protect others and serve justice for the victim whose life has been irrevocably altered by his actions.
