Prescot Sexual Abuser
In May 2018, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Thomas Rose, a 60-year-old man from Prescot, who was caught engaging in indecent behavior on a bus traveling through Liverpool. The incident was witnessed by a mother who was traveling with her teenage daughter and her daughter's friend, and it has since led to legal action and sentencing.
According to reports, Rose had consumed approximately ten pints of beer at a city centre pub called McCooleys before boarding the bus. As the vehicle made its way through Liverpool, Rose was seated alone to the immediate left of the young girl and her companion. Despite the bus being fully lit, Rose reportedly smiled at the group with what was described as a 'creepy look' on his face, which was noticed by the mother.
Prosecutor Andrew Page detailed that about 15 minutes into the journey, the mother observed Rose repeatedly looking in their direction and smiling in a manner that she found unsettling. She also noticed that Rose would quickly look away when she caught his gaze. However, her suspicion grew when she saw Rose's trousers unzipped and him playing with his exposed genitals, an act that caused her to feel shocked, disgusted, and distressed.
In response, the mother immediately alerted the bus driver, instructing him to stop the vehicle. She then confronted Rose directly, shouting at him to get off the bus, calling him a 'dirty little pervert.' Rose complied, quickly zipping up his trousers and leaving the bus. The victims then reported the incident to the police.
Despite the initial lack of CCTV footage, which hindered immediate apprehension, the same woman later spotted Rose staring at them again approximately four weeks later on the same bus route. Recognizing him, she alerted the authorities. When police arrived, they found Rose attempting to move away, but he was detained after officers noted his trousers were again unzipped. Rose did not contest the allegations and admitted to the offenses.
At Liverpool Magistrates’ Court, Rose, of Warrington Road, Prescot, was sentenced to five years on the sex offenders register and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. The court also mandated that he undertake 25 days of rehabilitation activities with the Probation Service, and he was required to pay £85 in prosecution costs along with an £85 victim surcharge. Rose expressed remorse for his actions, stating he was deeply embarrassed and unable to explain his behavior, which he attributed to heavy drinking and personal loss, including the deaths of his brothers and a niece.
