THOMAS RODGERS FROM ESSEX CONVICTED OF SEX OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN IN THE 1990S
A man with a disturbing history of sexual offenses against minors has been found guilty of multiple heinous crimes committed in the past.Thomas Rodgers, aged 44 and originally from Billericay in Essex, faced a jury trial after denying the allegations, only to be convicted of serious sexual misconduct involving young boys.
The offences in question are historic, dating back to the 1990s, when the victims were all children under the age of 11.
These crimes only came to light after the victims reported the incidents to the police on January 5, 2019.
The investigation was conducted by officers from the Metropolitan Police’s East Area Command, which led to Rodgers’s arrest on February 10, 2019, on suspicion of sexual assault.
Rodgers, who previously worked as a choir master in Essex, was taken into custody and subsequently brought before the court.
The police confirmed that Rodgers was bailed to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he faced a trial that concluded on December 5.
During the proceedings, he was convicted of multiple charges, including indecent assault on a male aged between eight and eleven years, as well as indecency with children aged five to eleven.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police expressed appreciation for the bravery of the victims, emphasizing the importance of their courage in coming forward.
Liam Woon, an investigating police constable, highlighted the lasting impact of these crimes, stating, “The offences in this case took place in the late 90s when the victims were children.
That trauma has followed them throughout their lives.
I hope this conviction brings the victims a sense of closure and highlights that no matter how much time has passed, we will investigate all reports of sexual abuse with a view to placing those responsible before the courts.” Thomas Rodgers is scheduled to appear in court again for sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, January 10, where a judge will determine the final punishment for his crimes.
