YORK BUILDER JAILED FOR 'BARBARIC' VIOLENCE AGAINST PARTNER
A builder who told his partner that "as a man" he could do what he wanted has been jailed for “barbaric” violence towards her.
Thomas Plant, 23, was described as having hit the woman while she was driving, throttled her twice, and kicked her so hard with his work boots that she fell backwards through a doorway, according to the prosecution.
The court heard that he controlled her behaviour, dictated who her friends were, and checked her phone.
After the violence, he texted her saying, “You won’t get anyone as good as me.” The Recorder of York, Judge Sean Morris, stated that the violence was “persistent, it was prolonged, it was barbaric”.
Plant was sentenced to 20 months in prison and given a seven-year restraining order banning him from contacting the woman or visiting her home or workplace.
He pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
The attack was linked to his alcohol and cocaine addiction, but the judge clarified that the violence was caused by drink and controlling behaviour, not mental health issues.
